I am asking for your vote of confidence to continue as an advocate and champion of educational excellence for all students in our District. Strong schools are the foundation of strong communities.
As a board member my sole focus has been and will continue to be working collaboratively with all district stakeholders to achieve the best outcomes for our students.
I will continue ensure that local control, and active communication and partnerships with parents are cornerstones of our district.
Strong parental involvement has always been a hallmark of Buckeye schools' success.
As a BUSD Board Member, my role is to serve our community's students, parents and teachers with a steady hand, open heart, and singular commitment to their success.
My support for quality education and state of the art learning environments at each school, during my tenure, has been unwavering.
I have helped to hire teachers, staff and administrators with educational experience, expertise, and vision, resulting in high performing schools. This is evidenced by strong test scores and both national and state recognition. I am proud to have been a part of expanding our school options to include, two International Baccalaureate schools, a highly successful Mandarin Immersion Program, and a TK-8 Montessori school.
Having multiple school choices gives all students a wider range of learning opportunities.
I have maintained a clear focus on ensuring that BUSD students are academically prepared with a state of the art education.
STEAM labs, expansive libraries and learning centers, environmental outdoor learning spaces, comphrensive standards-aligned curriculum including advanced math pathways, fully articulated kindergarten through eighth grade science curriculum, and inclusive reading and math intervention programs are just a few of the ways BUSD students are prepared for the future.
Providing afterschool learning opportunities for economically disadvantaged students and continuing the ongoing Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program are some of the ways students are supported for their greatest success.
Ensuring that fiscally responsible decisions are made for BUSD, means that quality programs, services and opportunities remain available for our children no matter the fiscal status of our state.
I have served as President of the Board numerous times and understand the need for well thought out decision making coupled with common sense, open communication, creative problem solving, and community collaboration. There is a reason that Buckeye USD has maintained its reputation of excellence for decades, that families move to our community for the quality schools, and that teachers commit to our learning communities -- the ability to keep the focus on achieving what is best for each student remains paramount.
As a parent, grandparent, nurse and professor of maternal-child-family nursing at CSUS for 30+ years, I have a deep understanding of the growth and developmental issues associated with the education and learning needs of children. I understand and respect family values, diversity, and present day parenting challenges. I am diligent at fostering collaboration, communication and respect.
I am honored to have been re-elected seven times to the Board of Trustees and bring the experience of working on complex and multifaceted issues facing the District, creating solutions that have put Buckeye USD at the forefront of educational leadership in our region.
My leadership has been recognized by the El Dorado County School Boards Association Dolores Garcia Memorial Spirit of Boardsmanship Award and Educational Statesmanship Award. CSUS College of Health and Human Services Outstanding Faculty Award for Community Service.
My children attended Brooks Elementary, Silva Valley Elementary, Camerado Springs MS, and Rolling Hills MS. My husband and I served on Site Councils, PTA's and as active Music Department Boosters.
My community service affiliations include: Golden Empire Council Scouts of America, St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Faith Community Nurse, and as the widow of a US Navy Veteran, local Veteran's agencies and support groups.

I am seeking reelection as a trustee of the Buckeye Union School District. I believe in quality education that reflects the educational values of our communities. It should prepare our children for the challenges of the future by providing them with a strong academic foundation, technological skills, a global perspective and a strong sense of citizenship. As a board member, I am committed to education that is sensitive to both the academic and developmental needs of our students. Well developed curriculum, clear communication between parents, students and teachers, recognition of individual learning needs, and promotion of student safety, all foster an environment that promotes maximum growth and learning for each child.
I will continue to support fiscal responsibility and soundness as essential for a well managed school district. Maximizing resources to support the District goals remain a priority as we work to maintain educational excellence and seek ways to continue to be a safe and welcoming place for children.
